*Teen Murti Bhavan*, (translated from Hindi as Three Statue House).
Built during the British Raj, it was then known as the Flagstaff House and was designed by Robert Tor Russel, the same architect who designed Connaught Place.
It was the residence of Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first Prime Minister, for 16 years, until his death in 1964. After that it was kept as a Museum, obeying Indira Gandhi’s orders.
It is a beautiful, simple, elegant building, with a mellow, peaceful garden. It’s inside is made of wood, marble, plaster etc. It has the architecture of the old British style with high ceilings, open hallways and glass windows with thin white borders.
Nehru’s and Indira Gandhi’s bedrooms are kept as they were, along with a beautiful study and a simple sitting room.
It shows the legacy and simplicity of British and Indian architecture and Nehru’s life.
